Wildlife Rescue

Through the years we have come across many animals and birds that have been in need of help, many of these have been road accident casualties, orphans or wildlife that has been in the wrong place at the wrong time !We have raised many young birds and mammals and helped larger animals such as badgers, deer, foxes , hedgehogs and  rabbits.

All of our little rescues have had to be looked after in and around our home so as you can imagine our kitchen and bathroom has often been taken over with red lamps, boxes and feeding bowls. Our donkeys are getting used to being moved about as we make emergency places around their shelters.

One of our projects for the near future is to be able to build a purpose built wildlife hospital complete with holding pens and treatment room

Here are just a few of them!

This Moorhen was found early one morning by Stuartfield pond.It had been knocked over by a car and they had not stopped!!  After an hour or two in a quiet place it was deemed fit enough to be  released on to the pond again .A few days later we saw the pair of moorhens on the pond with their babies!

"Goosey" a pink foot, was found exhausted in the snow.  Happily with a few days rest and a check up by our vet, she was successfully released
This seagull was found on the roadside at Cullen having been hit by a car and left flapping about in the road ! Please look at our Conscious Driving Campaign

This little frog was rescued together with 27 others from inside a garage ! They were dried out but soon recovered in damp grass and the "family" were released shortly after.
A lady across the way often called us to remove the snakes!!   (slowworms) From her kitchen as they came in under the door at night!

We went out one morning to find a fox curled up in our hay shed, we thought it was just sleeping but when we went out a while later she hadn't moved. It turned out she had been shot and her leg was infected, after a trip to the vet, she was taken to another sanctuary to recover and join a social group before release.

This pheasent was found on the road to Mintlaw, he had a broken leg, a trip to the vet and his leg is now on the mend.
While driving home at night we came across a young fox that had been hit by a car and was lying in the middle of the road, so we picked him up, by the time we got home he had come round and after being checked out we found he had just lost a couple of little teeth and a scrape on his jaw. After a few nights rest he was taken back and released where he was found.
A kind lady brought us a pigeon that looked like it had been caught by a cat, it had the whole of its chest bitten and not many feathers but as I was working as a veterinary nurse at the time the vet let me use the theatre to clean it up.I didn't expect it to last the night but it did and after a lot of time and aloe vera gel ( miracle stuff ) It recovered fully although slightly bald at the front!
