Wildlife Rescue |
|
Through the years
we have come across many animals and birds that have been
in need of help, many of these have been road accident casualties,
orphans or wildlife that has been in the wrong place at the
wrong time !! We have raised many young birds and mammals
and helped larger animals such as badgers, deer, foxes, hedgehogs
and rabbits.
All of our little rescues have had to be looked
after in and around our home so as you can imagine our kitchen
and bathroom has often been taken over with red lamps, boxes
and feeding bowls. Our donkeys are getting used to being moved
about as we make emergency places around their shelters.
One of our projects for the future is to be
able to build a purpose built wildlife hospital complete with
holding pens and treatment room
Here are just a few of them! |

 |
This was one of the baby seagulls we get in
the spring but instead of being a road casualty this little
one was being kicked by some kids in the middle of Fraserburgh,
as it was just sitting bewildered on the pavement a pensioner
picked it up and carried it home.she wouldn't leave it with
the kids as she thought they would kill it!! She then rung
us. It went to a foster home by the sea and was released with
another young baby when the time came.

|
| This baby pheasant was caught by a cat! It was
suffering from shock but no bites or cuts so after being in
the quiet to calm down was released. |
 |
|
 |
Some people saw this pheasant hit by a car that
didn't even try to avoid it !! let alone stop to see what they
had done!! but luckily the kind people went and picked her up
and brought her to us and with only a broken leg and a few cuts
she mended and was released home. |
|
Another gull from Fraserburgh this time with
a broken leg.
The leg mended fine just needed time and a quiet place. |

A lady from Peterhead found this hedgehog in her
garden. we went straight away to pick it up but it was already
on it way to sleep. |
|
| This baby had been hit by a car probably while
waiting to be fed by its mum unfortunately it was waiting on
the side of the road and as a baby was just learning. |
 |
|
 |
This little woodcock was not far from our local
shop such a beautiful bird and rarely seen it had been shot
and people were just ignoring it. |
|
| We picked this seagull up from Fraserburgh, Like
a lot of the other road casualties we get the knock was just
to much but that won't stop us trying with every one as you
never know. |
 |
|
 |
This beautiful young dove was hit by a car
and left in the middle of the road I could feel how scared
it was when I picked it up .
Unfortunately it went to sleep that night :( |
|
| This Moorhen was found early one morning by Stuartfield
pond.It had been knocked over by a car and they had not stopped!!
After an hour or two in a quiet place it was deemed fit enough
to be released on to the pond again .A few days later
we saw the pair of moorhens on the pond with their babies! |

This little frog was rescued together
with 27 others from inside a garage ! They were dried out but
soon recovered in damp grass and the "family" were
released shortly after. |

| A lady across the way often called us to remove
the snakes!! (slowworms) From her kitchen as they came
in under the door at night! |

|
|
|
We went out one
morning to find a fox curled up in our hay shed, we thought
it was just sleeping but when we went out a while later she
hadn't moved. It turned out she had been shot and her leg was
infected, after a trip to the vet, she was taken to another
sanctuary to recover and join a social group before release. |

This pheasant was found on the road to Mintlaw,
he had a broken leg, a trip to the vet and his leg is now on
the mend. |
|
|
| While driving home at night we came
across a young fox that had been hit by a car and was lying
in the middle of the road, so we picked him up, by the time
we got home he had come round and after being checked out we
found he had just lost a couple of little teeth and a scrape
on his jaw. After a few nights rest he was taken back and released
where he was found. |
|
|
| A kind lady brought us a pigeon that
looked like it had been caught by a cat, it had the whole of
its chest bitten and not many feathers but as I was working
as a veterinary nurse at the time the vet let me use the theatre
to clean it up .I didn't expect it to last the night but it
did and after a lot of time and aloe vera gel ( miracle stuff
) It recovered fully although slightly bald at the front! |
